Alistair Hart

Hart Brothers can trace their origins in the licensed trade back to the late 19th century when the family were licensed victuallers and publicans in Paisley, the mill town on the outskirts of Glasgow.

However, it was not until 1964 that brothers Iain & Donald Hart incorporated the company as Wine & Spirit Wholesalers and Scotch Whisky Blenders.

Alistair joined the company in 1975 and it is his responsibility as chief blender to source vintage casks of Single Malt Whisky that are not readily available through any specialist whisky shop or online whisky site.

With over 60 years experience in the Scotch Whisky industry, Alistair has won numerous awards including a Gold medal from the International Whisky Society for best Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Alistair began his career in the Scotch Whisky industry in 1962 where he worked under the guidance of Major Hartley Whyte as a trainee whisky blender with the Scotch Whisky blending house, Whyte & Mackay Limited. He was made a director of the company on his promotion to chief blender in 1972.

In 1975 Alistair left Whyte & Mackay to join his brothers with the remit of promoting their
company’s interests worldwide.

In 1998, Alistair was inducted into the prestigious order of the Keepers of the Quaich (a traditional Scottish two handled drinking cup), The Keepers is an exclusive society with membership by invitation only. Membership is limited to those individuals who have contributed in a material way to furthering the interests of the Scotch Whisky industry. In October 2018, he was raised to the rank of Master of the Quaich; A most prestigious honour.
