Glen Spey distillery dates back to the 1880s. Much of its whisky was bond for spirits merchant in St James’s, London to be made into house blends. For Glen Spey that was Justerini & Brooks to be made into their own house blend J&B. Giacomo Justerini emigrated from Bologna, Italy, to Britain in pursuit of an opera singer, Margherita Bellion, in 1749. While in Britain Justerini made his living, creating Scottish liqueurs. Brooks later became a partner with Justerini selling Scotch whisky. They were for a time part of Gilbeys, at which point there was a nutty, grassy eight-year-old Glen Spey.
