The Craigellachie distillery occupies a commanding position above Thomas Telford’s famous single span bridge across the river Spey. It was built in 1891 by Peter Mackie in partnership with Alexander Edward. Eventually it was taken over completely by Mackie, a man renowned for his high standards and boundless energy. He was later knighted for his services to the whisky industry. The distillery was rebuilt in 1965 by present owners United Distillers.
