Light amber colour, with smokey nose. Subtle citrus overtones with a smooth warm after glow. Lighter than the Islay style due to the distillery location on the Sound of Islay.
Bunnahabhain distillery lies on the northeast coast of Islay. The name means ‘mouth of the river,’ and sits at the mouth of the river Margadale. It was built by local farmers, the Greenlees brothers, in 1881. Their company was named The Islay Distillery Co. Ltd., and amalgamated with Glenrothes/Glenlivet distillery in 1887 to become the Highland Distilleries Company. Water from local springs is piped to the distillery, thereby avoiding contact with the peat. Almost all the production was used for blending until the late 1970’s.
