The distillery which was founded in 1974 is located in Mulben Banffshire between Rothes and Dufftown . Auchroisk which is Gaelic for “ford across the red stream “ draws its water from Dories Well which is very soft and of exceptional quality and is the reason for the distillery’s location.
The stills are designed to produce a light, elegant spirit for use in the J & B blend. Some early bottling’s were released under the name “Singleton”. So an excellent pedigree ‘.
The nose is of fresh cut grass with hints of heather and sherry. Speyside malts tend to be reminiscent of summer fruits and rose bushes. Not here though. More like licorice and aniseed. Looking for a malt with attitude. This is the one.
